Bitcoin is a sleeping bull. Here's why:

  1. Accumulation by institutions: Overlay the NASDAQ chart over bitcoin and you see incredible increase in correlation since November 2019. What has happened here? Simple, the retail investors/miners who have been selling for the last 3 years have been selling to institutions, rather than fellow retail investors. Bitcoin did not die, it was just entered a bear market where money traded hands from retail and into institution's hands.
  2. Buy the rumor sell the news: digital dollar. For those of you who do not know, there has been strong bipartisan interest in the United States creating their own digital currency, using blockchain technology. There was legislation hidden for the creation of this digital dollar inside one of the early stimulus bills that almost passed.
  3. Technical analysis: If it bitcoin breaks 10.5k, expect an explosive price pump to 14k, and I honestly don't think 14k will be very strong resistance, I honestly would expect the most serious level of resistance will be around 19-20k. If bitcoin fails to break 10.5k, expect a shakedown to the 20 week moving average which currently is around 8.2k.
  4. Gold fundamentals are bitcoin fundamentals, both are stronger than ever: The idea of having a currency that is finite, and divorced from any centralized bank or government is super attractive in the post covid world we live in today. Countries have getting a little too comfortable pressing the print button to print their way to riches. On the very long time frames, birth birthrates are freefalling on the global level, especially among the wealthiest countries whose currencies' supply are inflating exponentially to record highs. The supply of unbacked fiat will at some point surpass the demand and we will see the age of centralized banks come to an end.
  5. Bitcoin has already overtaken silver: Bitcoin has a market cap about 4 times larger than silver, and gold has a market cap about 75 times larger than bitcoin. Bitcoin has plenty of room to grow in this niche, and the digitization of it's nature could allow for it to expand in many areas where gold can not.
  6. The inflation rate gets cut in half every four years: it's current yearly inflation rate is 1.80%. In four years, the inflation rate will be approximately 0.9%. In 8 years, the inflation rate will be at ~0.45%, etc... Even if the demand stays the same for gold and bitcoin, bitcoin will overtake gold's market cap in a few decades just by looking at the stock to flow ratio of both commodities.

Default English word list

Alright so, I took the default database from there https://skribbliohints.github.io/ and with the help of html, I extracted the words to a list separated by commas. It's useful when you want to translate those words into your native language.
Word of advice, when using google translate, do not put all words at once there, it can rapidly worsen the translation.
(And there is a last thing. Their algorithm of picking only custom words is not working really good, at least for me. Meaning that I often get duplicates, despite having a list this big and without duplicates. I'm still trying to find some solution to this, so if somebody is experiencing this as well, share the knowledge please, I will do the same.)
SOLUTION: Thanks for the reply from PepegaWR who identified the cause. I also tested it and there seems to be a custom words limit of 5000 characters. The easiest way in my opinion is to shuffle the words before each session to minimize the impact. Also thanks to the flynger who had the same idea before me :)
Finally, here it is, enjoy the scribbling ^^ :

Where is Bitcoin Going and When?

Where is Bitcoin Going and When?

The Federal Reserve and the United States government are pumping extreme amounts of money into the economy, already totaling over $484 billion. They are doing so because it already had a goal to inflate the United States Dollar (USD) so that the market can continue to all-time highs. It has always had this goal. They do not care how much inflation goes up by now as we are going into a depression with the potential to totally crash the US economy forever. They believe the only way to save the market from going to zero or negative values is to inflate it so much that it cannot possibly crash that low. Even if the market does not dip that low, inflation serves the interest of powerful people.
The impending crash of the stock market has ramifications for Bitcoin, as, though there is no direct ongoing-correlation between the two, major movements in traditional markets will necessarily affect Bitcoin. According to the Blockchain Center’s Cryptocurrency Correlation Tool, Bitcoin is not correlated with the stock market. However, when major market movements occur, they send ripples throughout the financial ecosystem which necessary affect even ordinarily uncorrelated assets.
Therefore, Bitcoin will reach X price on X date after crashing to a price of X by X date.

Stock Market Crash

The Federal Reserve has caused some serious consternation with their release of ridiculous amounts of money in an attempt to buoy the economy. At face value, it does not seem to have any rationale or logic behind it other than keeping the economy afloat long enough for individuals to profit financially and politically. However, there is an underlying basis to what is going on which is important to understand in order to profit financially.
All markets are functionally price probing systems. They constantly undergo a price-discovery process. In a fiat system, money is an illusory and a fundamentally synthetic instrument with no intrinsic value – similar to Bitcoin. The primary difference between Bitcoin is the underlying technology which provides a slew of benefits that fiat does not. Fiat, however, has an advantage in being able to have the support of powerful nation-states which can use their might to insure the currency’s prosperity.
Traditional stock markets are composed of indices (pl. of index). Indices are non-trading market instruments which are essentially summaries of business values which comprise them. They are continuously recalculated throughout a trading day, and sometimes reflected through tradable instruments such as Exchange Traded Funds or Futures. Indices are weighted by market capitalizations of various businesses.
Price theory essentially states that when a market fails to take out a new low in a given range, it will have an objective to take out the high. When a market fails to take out a new high, it has an objective to make a new low. This is why price-time charts go up and down, as it does this on a second-by-second, minute-by-minute, day-by-day, and even century-by-century basis. Therefore, market indices will always return to some type of bull market as, once a true low is formed, the market will have a price objective to take out a new high outside of its’ given range – which is an all-time high. Instruments can only functionally fall to zero, whereas they can grow infinitely.
So, why inflate the economy so much?
Deflation is disastrous for central banks and markets as it raises the possibility of producing an overall price objective of zero or negative values. Therefore, under a fractional reserve system with a fiat currency managed by a central bank – the goal of the central bank is to depreciate the currency. The dollar is manipulated constantly with the intention of depreciating its’ value.
Central banks have a goal of continued inflated fiat values. They tend to ordinarily contain it at less than ten percent (10%) per annum in order for the psyche of the general populace to slowly adjust price increases. As such, the markets are divorced from any other logic. Economic policy is the maintenance of human egos, not catering to fundamental analysis. Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth is well-known not to be a measure of actual growth or output. It is a measure of increase in dollars processed. Banks seek to produce raising numbers which make society feel like it is growing economically, making people optimistic. To do so, the currency is inflated, though inflation itself does not actually increase growth. When society is optimistic, it spends and engages in business – resulting in actual growth. It also encourages people to take on credit and debts, creating more fictional fiat.
Inflation is necessary for markets to continue to reach new heights, generating positive emotional responses from the populace, encouraging spending, encouraging debt intake, further inflating the currency, and increasing the sale of government bonds. The fiat system only survives by generating more imaginary money on a regular basis.
Bitcoin investors may profit from this by realizing that stock investors as a whole always stand to profit from the market so long as it is managed by a central bank and does not collapse entirely. If those elements are filled, it has an unending price objective to raise to new heights. It also allows us to realize that this response indicates that the higher-ups believe that the economy could crash in entirety, and it may be wise for investors to have multiple well-thought-out exit strategies.

Economic Analysis of Bitcoin

The reason why the Fed is so aggressively inflating the economy is due to fears that it will collapse forever or never rebound. As such, coupled with a global depression, a huge demand will appear for a reserve currency which is fundamentally different than the previous system. Bitcoin, though a currency or asset, is also a market. It also undergoes a constant price-probing process. Unlike traditional markets, Bitcoin has the exact opposite goal. Bitcoin seeks to appreciate in value and not depreciate. This has a quite different affect in that Bitcoin could potentially become worthless and have a price objective of zero.
Bitcoin was created in 2008 by a now famous mysterious figure known as Satoshi Nakamoto and its’ open source code was released in 2009. It was the first decentralized cryptocurrency to utilize a novel protocol known as the blockchain. Up to one megabyte of data may be sent with each transaction. It is decentralized, anonymous, transparent, easy to set-up, and provides myriad other benefits. Bitcoin is not backed up by anything other than its’ own technology.
Bitcoin is can never be expected to collapse as a framework, even were it to become worthless. The stock market has the potential to collapse in entirety, whereas, as long as the internet exists, Bitcoin will be a functional system with a self-authenticating framework. That capacity to persist regardless of the actual price of Bitcoin and the deflationary nature of Bitcoin means that it has something which fiat does not – inherent value.
Bitcoin is based on a distributed database known as the “blockchain.” Blockchains are essentially decentralized virtual ledger books, replete with pages known as “blocks.” Each page in a ledger is composed of paragraph entries, which are the actual transactions in the block.
Blockchains store information in the form of numerical transactions, which are just numbers. We can consider these numbers digital assets, such as Bitcoin. The data in a blockchain is immutable and recorded only by consensus-based algorithms. Bitcoin is cryptographic and all transactions are direct, without intermediary, peer-to-peer.
Bitcoin does not require trust in a central bank. It requires trust on the technology behind it, which is open-source and may be evaluated by anyone at any time. Furthermore, it is impossible to manipulate as doing so would require all of the nodes in the network to be hacked at once – unlike the stock market which is manipulated by the government and “Market Makers”. Bitcoin is also private in that, though the ledge is openly distributed, it is encrypted. Bitcoin’s blockchain has one of the greatest redundancy and information disaster recovery systems ever developed.
Bitcoin has a distributed governance model in that it is controlled by its’ users. There is no need to trust a payment processor or bank, or even to pay fees to such entities. There are also no third-party fees for transaction processing. As the ledge is immutable and transparent it is never possible to change it – the data on the blockchain is permanent. The system is not easily susceptible to attacks as it is widely distributed. Furthermore, as users of Bitcoin have their private keys assigned to their transactions, they are virtually impossible to fake. No lengthy verification, reconciliation, nor clearing process exists with Bitcoin.
Bitcoin is based on a proof-of-work algorithm. Every transaction on the network has an associated mathetical “puzzle”. Computers known as miners compete to solve the complex cryptographic hash algorithm that comprises that puzzle. The solution is proof that the miner engaged in sufficient work. The puzzle is known as a nonce, a number used only once. There is only one major nonce at a time and it issues 12.5 Bitcoin. Once it is solved, the fact that the nonce has been solved is made public.
A block is mined on average of once every ten minutes. However, the blockchain checks every 2,016,000 minutes (approximately four years) if 201,600 blocks were mined. If it was faster, it increases difficulty by half, thereby deflating Bitcoin. If it was slower, it decreases, thereby inflating Bitcoin. It will continue to do this until zero Bitcoin are issued, projected at the year 2140. On the twelfth of May, 2020, the blockchain will halve the amount of Bitcoin issued when each nonce is guessed. When Bitcoin was first created, fifty were issued per block as a reward to miners. 6.25 BTC will be issued from that point on once each nonce is solved.
Unlike fiat, Bitcoin is a deflationary currency. As BTC becomes scarcer, demand for it will increase, also raising the price. In this, BTC is similar to gold. It is predictable in its’ output, unlike the USD, as it is based on a programmed supply. We can predict BTC’s deflation and inflation almost exactly, if not exactly. Only 21 million BTC will ever be produced, unless the entire network concedes to change the protocol – which is highly unlikely.
Some of the drawbacks to BTC include congestion. At peak congestion, it may take an entire day to process a Bitcoin transaction as only three to five transactions may be processed per second. Receiving priority on a payment may cost up to the equivalent of twenty dollars ($20). Bitcoin mining consumes enough energy in one day to power a single-family home for an entire week.

Trading or Investing?

The fundamental divide in trading revolves around the question of market structure. Many feel that the market operates totally randomly and its’ behavior cannot be predicted. For the purposes of this article, we will assume that the market has a structure, but that that structure is not perfect. That market structure naturally generates chart patterns as the market records prices in time. In order to determine when the stock market will crash, causing a major decline in BTC price, we will analyze an instrument, an exchange traded fund, which represents an index, as opposed to a particular stock. The price patterns of the various stocks in an index are effectively smoothed out. In doing so, a more technical picture arises. Perhaps the most popular of these is the SPDR S&P Standard and Poor 500 Exchange Traded Fund ($SPY).
In trading, little to no concern is given about value of underlying asset. We are concerned primarily about liquidity and trading ranges, which are the amount of value fluctuating on a short-term basis, as measured by volatility-implied trading ranges. Fundamental analysis plays a role, however markets often do not react to real-world factors in a logical fashion. Therefore, fundamental analysis is more appropriate for long-term investing.
The fundamental derivatives of a chart are time (x-axis) and price (y-axis). The primary technical indicator is price, as everything else is lagging in the past. Price represents current asking price and incorrectly implementing positions based on price is one of the biggest trading errors.
Markets and currencies ordinarily have noise, their tendency to back-and-fill, which must be filtered out for true pattern recognition. That noise does have a utility, however, in allowing traders second chances to enter favorable positions at slightly less favorable entry points. When you have any market with enough liquidity for historical data to record a pattern, then a structure can be divined. The market probes prices as part of an ongoing price-discovery process. Market technicians must sometimes look outside of the technical realm and use visual inspection to ascertain the relevance of certain patterns, using a qualitative eye that recognizes the underlying quantitative nature
Markets and instruments rise slower than they correct, however they rise much more than they fall. In the same vein, instruments can only fall to having no worth, whereas they could theoretically grow infinitely and have continued to grow over time. Money in a fiat system is illusory. It is a fundamentally synthetic instrument which has no intrinsic value. Hence, the recent seemingly illogical fluctuations in the market.
According to trade theory, the unending purpose of a market or instrument is to create and break price ranges according to the laws of supply and demand. We must determine when to trade based on each market inflection point as defined in price and in time as opposed to abandoning the trend (as the contrarian trading in this sub often does). Time and Price symmetry must be used to be in accordance with the trend. When coupled with a favorable risk to reward ratio, the ability to stay in the market for most of the defined time period, and adherence to risk management rules; the trader has a solid methodology for achieving considerable gains.
We will engage in a longer term market-oriented analysis to avoid any time-focused pressure. The Bitcoin market is open twenty-four-hours a day, so trading may be done when the individual is ready, without any pressing need to be constantly alert. Let alone, we can safely project months in advance with relatively high accuracy. Bitcoin is an asset which an individual can both trade and invest, however this article will be focused on trading due to the wide volatility in BTC prices over the short-term.

Technical Indicator Analysis of Bitcoin

Technical indicators are often considered self-fulfilling prophecies due to mass-market psychology gravitating towards certain common numbers yielded from them. They are also often discounted when it comes to BTC. That means a trader must be especially aware of these numbers as they can prognosticate market movements. Often, they are meaningless in the larger picture of things.
  • Volume – derived from the market itself, it is mostly irrelevant. The major problem with volume for stocks is that the US market open causes tremendous volume surges eradicating any intrinsic volume analysis. This does not occur with BTC, as it is open twenty-four-seven. At major highs and lows, the market is typically anemic. Most traders are not active at terminal discretes (peaks and troughs) because of levels of fear. Volume allows us confidence in time and price symmetry market inflection points, if we observe low volume at a foretold range of values. We can rationalize that an absolute discrete is usually only discovered and anticipated by very few traders. As the general market realizes it, a herd mentality will push the market in the direction favorable to defending it. Volume is also useful for swing trading, as chances for swing’s validity increases if an increase in volume is seen on and after the swing’s activation. Volume is steadily decreasing. Lows and highs are reached when volume is lower.
Therefore, due to the relatively high volume on the 12th of March, we can safely determine that a low for BTC was not reached.
  • VIX – Volatility Index, this technical indicator indicates level of fear by the amount of options-based “insurance” in portfolios. A low VIX environment, less than 20 for the S&P index, indicates a stable market with a possible uptrend. A high VIX, over 20, indicates a possible downtrend. VIX is essentially useless for BTC as BTC-based options do not exist. It allows us to predict the market low for $SPY, which will have an indirect impact on BTC in the short term, likely leading to the yearly low. However, it is equally important to see how VIX is changing over time, if it is decreasing or increasing, as that indicates increasing or decreasing fear. Low volatility allows high leverage without risk or rest. Occasionally, markets do rise with high VIX.
As VIX is unusually high, in the forties, we can be confident that a downtrend for the S&P 500 is imminent.
  • RSI (Relative Strength Index): The most important technical indicator, useful for determining highs and lows when time symmetry is not availing itself. Sometimes analysis of RSI can conflict in different time frames, easiest way to use it is when it is at extremes – either under 30 or over 70. Extremes can be used for filtering highs or lows based on time-and-price window calculations. Highly instructive as to major corrective clues and indicative of continued directional movement. Must determine if longer-term RSI values find support at same values as before. It is currently at 73.56.
  • Secondly, RSI may be used as a high or low filter, to observe the level that short-term RSI reaches in counter-trend corrections. Repetitions based on market movements based on RSI determine how long a trade should be held onto. Once a short term RSI reaches an extreme and stay there, the other RSI’s should gradually reach the same extremes. Once all RSI’s are at extreme highs, a trend confirmation should occur and RSI’s should drop to their midpoint.

Trend Definition Analysis of Bitcoin

Trend definition is highly powerful, cannot be understated. Knowledge of trend logic is enough to be a profitable trader, yet defining a trend is an arduous process. Multiple trends coexist across multiple time frames and across multiple market sectors. Like time structure, it makes the underlying price of the instrument irrelevant. Trend definitions cannot determine the validity of newly formed discretes. Trend becomes apparent when trades based in counter-trend inflection points continue to fail.
Downtrends are defined as an instrument making lower lows and lower highs that are recurrent, additive, qualified swing setups. Downtrends for all instruments are similar, except forex. They are fast and complete much quicker than uptrends. An average downtrend is 18 months, something which we will return to. An uptrend inception occurs when an instrument reaches a point where it fails to make a new low, then that low will be tested. After that, the instrument will either have a deep range retracement or it may take out the low slightly, resulting in a double-bottom. A swing must eventually form.
A simple way to roughly determine trend is to attempt to draw a line from three tops going upwards (uptrend) or a line from three bottoms going downwards (downtrend). It is not possible to correctly draw a downtrend line on the BTC chart, but it is possible to correctly draw an uptrend – indicating that the overall trend is downwards. The only mitigating factor is the impending stock market crash.

Time Symmetry Analysis of Bitcoin

Time is the movement from the past through the present into the future. It is a measurement in quantified intervals. In many ways, our perception of it is a human construct. It is more powerful than price as time may be utilized for a trade regardless of the market inflection point’s price. Were it possible to perfectly understand time, price would be totally irrelevant due to the predictive certainty time affords. Time structure is easier to learn than price, but much more difficult to apply with any accuracy. It is the hardest aspect of trading to learn, but also the most rewarding.
Humans do not have the ability to recognize every time window, however the ability to define market inflection points in terms of time is the single most powerful trading edge. Regardless, price should not be abandoned for time alone. Time structure analysis It is inherently flawed, as such the markets have a fail-safe, which is Price Structure. Even though Time is much more powerful, Price Structure should never be completely ignored. Time is the qualifier for Price and vice versa. Time can fail by tricking traders into counter-trend trading.
Time is a predestined trade quantifier, a filter to slow trades down, as it allows a trader to specifically focus on specific time windows and rest at others. It allows for quantitative measurements to reach deterministic values and is the primary qualifier for trends. Time structure should be utilized before price structure, and it is the primary trade criterion which requires support from price. We can see price structure on a chart, as areas of mathematical support or resistance, but we cannot see time structure.
Time may be used to tell us an exact point in the future where the market will inflect, after Price Theory has been fulfilled. In the present, price objectives based on price theory added to possible future times for market inflection points give us the exact time of market inflection points and price.
Time Structure is repetitions of time or inherent cycles of time, occurring in a methodical way to provide time windows which may be utilized for inflection points. They are not easily recognized and not easily defined by a price chart as measuring and observing time is very exact. Time structure is not a science, yet it does require precise measurements. Nothing is certain or definite. The critical question must be if a particular approach to time structure is currently lucrative or not.
We will measure it in intervals of 180 bars. Our goal is to determine time windows, when the market will react and when we should pay the most attention. By using time repetitions, the fact that market inflection points occurred at some point in the past and should, therefore, reoccur at some point in the future, we should obtain confidence as to when SPY will reach a market inflection point. Time repetitions are essentially the market’s memory. However, simply measuring the time between two points then trying to extrapolate into the future does not work. Measuring time is not the same as defining time repetitions. We will evaluate past sessions for market inflection points, whether discretes, qualified swings, or intra-range. Then records the times that the market has made highs or lows in a comparable time period to the future one seeks to trade in.
What follows is a time Histogram – A grouping of times which appear close together, then segregated based on that closeness. Time is aligned into combined histogram of repetitions and cycles, however cycles are irrelevant on a daily basis. If trading on an hourly basis, do not use hours.
  • Yearly Lows (last seven years): 1/1/13, 4/10/14, 1/15/15, 1/17/16, 1/1/17, 12/15/18, 2/6/19
  • Monthly Mode: 1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 4, 12
  • Daily Mode: 1, 1, 6, 10, 15, 15, 17
  • Monthly Lows (for the last year): 3/12/20 (10:00pm), 2/28/20 (7:09am), 1/2/20 (8:09pm), 12/18/19 (8:00am), 11/25/19 (1:00am), 10/24/19 (2:59am), 9/30/19 (2:59am), 8/29,19 (4:00am), 7/17/19 (7:59am), 6/4/19 (5:59pm), 5/1/19 (12:00am), 4/1/19 (12:00am)
  • Daily Lows Mode for those Months: 1, 1, 2, 4, 12, 17, 18, 24, 25, 28, 29, 30
  • Hourly Lows Mode for those Months (Military time): 0100, 0200, 0200, 0400, 0700, 0700, 0800, 1200, 1200, 1700, 2000, 2200
  • Minute Lows Mode for those Months: 00, 00, 00, 00, 00, 00, 09, 09, 59, 59, 59, 59
  • Day of the Week Lows (last twenty-six weeks):
Weighted Times are repetitions which appears multiple times within the same list, observed and accentuated once divided into relevant sections of the histogram. They are important in the presently defined trading time period and are similar to a mathematical mode with respect to a series. Phased times are essentially periodical patterns in histograms, though they do not guarantee inflection points
Evaluating the yearly lows, we see that BTC tends to have its lows primarily at the beginning of every year, with a possibility of it being at the end of the year. Following the same methodology, we get the middle of the month as the likeliest day. However, evaluating the monthly lows for the past year, the beginning and end of the month are more likely for lows.
Therefore, we have two primary dates from our histogram.
1/1/21, 1/15/21, and 1/29/21
2:00am, 8:00am, 12:00pm, or 10:00pm
In fact, the high for this year was February the 14th, only thirty days off from our histogram calculations.
The 8.6-Year Armstrong-Princeton Global Economic Confidence model states that 2.15 year intervals occur between corrections, relevant highs and lows. 2.15 years from the all-time peak discrete is February 9, 2020 – a reasonably accurate depiction of the low for this year (which was on 3/12/20). (Taking only the Armstrong model into account, the next high should be Saturday, April 23, 2022). Therefore, the Armstrong model indicates that we have actually bottomed out for the year!
Bear markets cannot exist in perpetuity whereas bull markets can. Bear markets will eventually have price objectives of zero, whereas bull markets can increase to infinity. It can occur for individual market instruments, but not markets as a whole. Since bull markets are defined by low volatility, they also last longer. Once a bull market is indicated, the trader can remain in a long position until a new high is reached, then switch to shorts. The average bear market is eighteen months long, giving us a date of August 19th, 2021 for the end of this bear market – roughly speaking. They cannot be shorter than fifteen months for a central-bank controlled market, which does not apply to Bitcoin. (Otherwise, it would continue until Sunday, September 12, 2021.) However, we should expect Bitcoin to experience its’ exponential growth after the stock market re-enters a bull market.
Terry Laundy’s T-Theory implemented by measuring the time of an indicator from peak to trough, then using that to define a future time window. It is similar to an head-and-shoulders pattern in that it is the process of forming the right side from a synthetic technical indicator. If the indicator is making continued lows, then time is recalculated for defining the right side of the T. The date of the market inflection point may be a price or indicator inflection date, so it is not always exactly useful. It is better to make us aware of possible market inflection points, clustered with other data. It gives us an RSI low of May, 9th 2020.
The Bradley Cycle is coupled with volatility allows start dates for campaigns or put options as insurance in portfolios for stocks. However, it is also useful for predicting market moves instead of terminal dates for discretes. Using dates which correspond to discretes, we can see how those dates correspond with changes in VIX.
Therefore, our timeline looks like:
  • 2/14/20 – yearly high ($10372 USD)
  • 3/12/20 – yearly low thus far ($3858 USD)
  • 5/9/20 – T-Theory true yearly low (BTC between 4863 and 3569)
  • 5/26/20 – hashrate difficulty halvening
  • 11/14/20 – stock market low
  • 1/15/21 – yearly low for BTC, around $8528
  • 8/19/21 – end of stock bear market
  • 11/26/21 – eighteen months from halvening, average peak from halvenings (BTC begins rising from $3000 area to above $23,312)
  • 4/23/22 – all-time high

List of moderately difficult skribbl words for your new friend group (1200+ words)

That is to say that this list contains words that this list contains words that:
  1. Usually aren't instantly guess-able (like star, apple, or Nike).
  2. Can be played with a group of acquaintances (I play with a group of interns at work to blow off time)
Created this list by modifying an existing difficult word list we found online and adding a bunch of new words. If you see a stupid difficult word, it was probably a word from the existing difficult word list that I forgot to remove. (amicable and reimbursement were the type of bs I removed lol).

Bitcoin Halving & the Step to Maturation

Bitcoin Halving & the Step to Maturation
It’s about a week to the long-expected Bitcoin halving.
You can easily find a counting down page by visiting the website of any exchange, online magazine or data aggregator. Yes — everybody is waiting for it.

Source: Bitcoin Block Half
It’s an event that brings both predictability and uncertainty.

What is Predictable?

Bitcoin was designed as a deflationary currency with a 21 million fixed supply, like gold. Over time, the issuance of bitcoins will decrease and thus become scarcer.
When it was first created, 50 Bitcoins per block were given as a reward to the miners. After every 210,000 blocks are mined (approximately every 4 years), the block reward halves and will keep on halving until the block reward per block becomes 0 (approximately by year 2140).
At about 06:18 UTC on May 12, 2020 (as of writing), the block rewards of Bitcoin will drop from 12.5 BTC to 6.25 BTC.

What is Uncertain?

Source: https://www.bitcoinblockhalf.com/
As is shown in this chart, we can note a significant price jump after each halving.
But will this time turn out to be a different story when both the stock market and the crypto market are much more volatile than usual due to the global COVID-19 pandemic?
The past few months saw a big shakeout in the crypto market due to the coronavirus pandemic and its aftermath. On March 12, the Bitcoin price dumped 40% touching $3,800 within the day, marking a Black Thursday of the year.
The stock market went through a severe crash too. The US stock market triggered the “circuit breaker” four times within 10 days.
Just recently, the Bitcoin price soared above $9,000 and has now retraced to $8,864 at the time of writing, according to the statistics on CoinMarketCap.
Nobody knows for sure how things will be when the halving happens. Will the Bitcoin price be even more volatile or will it stabilize?

2020 Bitcoin Maturity Test

According to the Bloomberg Crypto Outlook (April 2020 Edition), the increasing futures open interest, declining volatility and relative outperformance despite the stock-market shakeout this year indicates Bitcoin is maturing from a speculative crypto asset toward a digital version of gold.

Increasing futures open interest

Source: skew
The number of Bitcoin futures contracts outstanding listed on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) has recovered significantly from the March lows, indicating a resurgence in institutions that want to buy the cryptocurrency. The high volume also represents taming of the highly speculative bull market.

Declining Volatility

This graphic shows that the correlation between Bitcoin and gold has jumped to the highest since 2010, twice that of equities, suggesting that Bitcoin is now divorcing equities and joining gold.

Bitcoin Outperformed Stock Market

Apart from that, Bitcoin is becoming less of a risk-on asset. In the first quarter of 2020, Bitcoin remained up about 9% when the S&P 500 showed a correction of 20%.

To Sum Up

2020 marks a key test for Bitcoin’s transition from speculative asset to the crypto market’s version of gold. We believe that the first-born crypto will pass the test to move towards a mature gold-like asset.

Is this a scam?

So I received a message from a so called “sugar daddy”, asking me to, in return of a weekly allowance, place money in a Bitcoin ATM since he is “off-shore”. Here’s some messages:
“ I am a geologist, divorced and a bitcoin miner, I spend most of time offshore, here on the Hibernia oil rig. I'm specifically looking for a trustworthy sugar baby who can make some deposit for me at the bitcoin machine till I'm done with my project here.”
“No sweet, I'm running an offshore current account and online transfer is not an option at all. I can tell my account officer to prepare a paycheck, get it endorsed and send it to your email then you can deposit it through your mobile banking yourself. So all I'm going to need is your name to put on the cheque and the email to send it to.”
He hasn’t asked me for any info, and I’m in need of the money lol. Is this a scam?

Lightning Network Will Likely Fail Due To Several Possible Reasons

ECONOMIC CASE IS ABSENT FOR MANY TRANSACTIONS
The median Bitcoin (BTC) fee is $14.41 currently. This has gone parabolic in the past few days. So, let’s use a number before this parabolic rise, which was $3.80. Using this number, opening and closing a Lightning Network (LN) channel means that you will pay $7.60 in fees. Most likely, the fee will be much higher for two reasons:
  1. BTC fees have been trending higher all year and will be higher by the time LN is ready
  2. When you are in the shoe store or restaurant, you will likely pay a higher fee so that you are not waiting there for one or more hours for confirmation.
Let’s say hypothetically that Visa or Paypal charges $1 per transaction. This means that Alice and Carol would need to do 8 or more LN transactions, otherwise it would be cheaper to use Visa or Paypal.
But it gets worse. Visa doesn’t charge the customer. To you, Visa and Cash are free. You would have no economic incentive to use BTC and LN.
Also, Visa does not charge $1 per transaction. They charge 3%, which is 60 cents on a $20 widget. Let’s say that merchants discount their widgets by 60 cents for non-Visa purchases, to pass the savings onto the customer. Nevertheless, no one is going to use BTC and LN to buy the widget unless 2 things happen:
  1. they buy more than 13 widgets from the same store ($7.60 divided by 60 cents)
  2. they know ahead of time that they will do this with that same store
This means that if you’re traveling, or want to tip content producers on the internet, you will likely not use BTC and LN. If you and your spouse want to try out a new restaurant, you will not use BTC and LN. If you buy shoes, you will not use BTC and LN.
ROAD BLOCKS FROM INSUFFICIENT FUNDS
Some argue that you do not need to open a channel to everyone, if there’s a route to that merchant. This article explains that if LN is a like a distributed mesh network, then another problem exists:
"third party needs to possess the necessary capital to process the transaction. If Alice and Bob do not have an open channel, and Alice wants to send Bob .5 BTC, they'll both need to be connected to a third party (or a series of 3rd parties). Say if Charles (the third party) only possesses .4 BTC in his respective payment channels with the other users, the transaction will not be able to go through that route. The longer the route, the more likely that a third party does not possess the requisite amount of BTC, thereby making it a useless connection.”
CENTRALIZATION
According to this visualization of LN on testnet, LN will be centralized around major hubs. It might be even more centralized than this visualization if the following are true:
  1. Users will want to connect to large hubs to minimize the number of times they need to open/close channels, which incur fees
  2. LN’s security and usability relies on 100% uptime of relaying parties
  3. Only large hubs with a lot of liquidity will be able to make money
  4. Hubs or intermediary nodes will need to be licensed as money transmitters, centralizing LN to exchanges and banks as large hubs
What will the impact be on censorship-resistance, trust-less and permission-less?
NEED TO BE LICENSED AS MONEY TRANSMITTER
Advocates for LN seem to talk a lot about the technology, but ignore the legalities.
FinCEN defines money transmitters. LN hubs and intermediary nodes seem to satisfy this definition.
Application of FinCEN's Regulations to Persons Administering, Exchanging, or Using Virtual Currencies
“…applicability of the regulations … to persons creating, obtaining, distributing, exchanging, accepting, or transmitting virtual currencies.”
“…an administrator or exchanger is an MSB under FinCEN's regulations, specifically, a money transmitter…”
"An administrator or exchanger that (1) accepts and transmits a convertible virtual currency or (2) buys or sells convertible virtual currency for any reason is a money transmitter under FinCEN's regulations…”
"FinCEN's regulations define the term "money transmitter" as a person that provides money transmission services, or any other person engaged in the transfer of funds. The term "money transmission services" means "the acceptance of currency, funds, or other value that substitutes for currency from one person and the transmission of currency, funds, or other value that substitutes for currency to another location or person by any means.””
"The definition of a money transmitter does not differentiate between real currencies and convertible virtual currencies.”
FinCEN’s regulations for IVTS:
"An “informal value transfer system” refers to any system, mechanism, or network of people that receives money for the purpose of making the funds or an equivalent value payable to a third party in another geographic location, whether or not in the same form.”
“…IVTS… must comply with all BSA registration, recordkeeping, reporting and AML program requirements.
“Money transmitting” occurs when funds are transferred on behalf of the public by any and all means including, but not limited to, transfers within the United States or to locations abroad…regulations require all money transmitting businesses…to register with FinCEN."
Mike Caldwell used to accept and mail bitcoins. Customers sent him bitcoins and he mailed physical bitcoins back or to a designated recipient. There is no exchange from one type of currency to another. FinCEN told him that he needed to be licensed as money transmitter, after which Caldwell stopped mailing out bitcoins.
ARGUMENTS AGAINST NEED FOR LICENSING
Some have argued that LN does not transfer BTC until the channel is closed on the blockchain. This is not a defence, since channels will close on the blockchain.
Some have argued that LN nodes do not take ownership of funds. Is this really true? Is this argument based on a technicality or hoping for a loophole? It seems intuitive that a good prosecutor can easily defeat this argument. Even if this loophole exists, can we count on the government to never close this loophole?
So, will LN hubs and intermediary nodes need to be licensed as money transmitters? If so, then Bob, who is the intermediary between Alice and Carol, will need a license. But Bob won’t have the money nor qualifications. Money transmitters need to pay $25,000 to $1 million, maintain capital levels and are subject to KYC/AML regulations1. In which case, LN will have mainly large hubs, run by financial firms, such as banks and exchanges.
Will the banks want this? Likely. Will they lobby the government to get it? Likely.
Some may be wondering about miners. FinCEN has declared that miners are not money transmitters:
https://coincenter.org/entry/aml-kyc-tokens :
"Subsequent administrative rulings clarified several remaining ambiguities: miners are not money transmitters…"
FinCEN Declares Bitcoin Miners, Investors Aren't Money Transmitters
Some argue that LN nodes will go through Tor and be anonymous. For this to work, will all of the nodes connecting to it, need to run Tor? If so, then how likely will this happen and will all of these people need to run Tor on every device (laptop, phone and tablet)? Furthermore, everyone of these people will be need to be sufficiently tech savvy to download, install and set up Tor. Will the common person be able to do this? Also, will law-abiding nodes, such as retailers or banks, risk their own livelihood by connecting to an illegal node? What is the likelihood of this?
Some argue that unlicensed LN hubs can run in foreign countries. Not true. According to FinCEN: "“Money transmitting” occurs when funds are…transfers within the United States or to locations abroad…” Also, foreign companies are not immune from the laws of other countries which have extradition agreements. The U.S. government has sued European banks over the LIBOR scandal. The U.S. government has charged foreign banks for money laundering and two of those banks pleaded guilty. Furthermore, most countries have similar laws. It is no coincidence that European exchanges comply with KYC/AML.
Will licensed, regulated LN hubs connect to LN nodes behind Tor or in foreign countries? Unlikely. Will Amazon or eBay connect to LN nodes behind Tor or in foreign countries? Unlikely. If you want to buy from Amazon, you’ll likely need to register yourself at a licensed, regulated LN hub, which means you’ll need to provide your identification photo.
Say goodbye to a censorship-resistant, trust-less and permission-less coin.
For a preview of what LN will probably look like, look at Coinbase or other large exchanges. It’s a centralized, regulated and censored hub. Coinbase allows users to send to each other off-chain. Coinbase provides user data to the IRS and disallows users from certain countries to sell BTC. You need to trust that no rogue employee in the exchange will steal your funds, or that a bank will not confiscate your funds as banks did in Cyprus. What if the government provides a list of users, who are late with their tax returns, to Coinbase and tells Coinbase to block those users from making transactions? You need Coinbase’s permission.
This would be the antithesis of why Satoshi created Bitcoin.
NEED TO REPORT TO IRS
The IRS has a definition for “third party settlement organization” and these need to report transactions to the IRS.
Though we do not know for sure yet, it can be argued that LN hubs satisfies this definition. If this is the case, who will be willing to be LN hubs, other than banks and exchanges?
To read about the discussion, go to:
Lightning Hubs Will Need To Report To IRS
COMPLEXITY
All cryptocurrencies are complicated for the common person. You may be tech savvy enough to find a secure wallet and use cryptocurrencies, but the masses are not as tech savvy as you.
LN adds a very complicated and convoluted layer to cryptocurrencies. It is bound to have bugs for years to come and it’s complicated to use. This article provides a good explanation of the complexity. Just from the screenshot of the app, the user now needs to learn additional terms and commands:
“On Chain”
“In Channels”
“In Limbo”
“Your Channel”
“Create Channel”
“CID”
“OPENING”
“PENDING-OPEN”
“Available to Receive”
“PENDING-FORCE-CLOSE”
There are also other things to learn, such as how funds need to be allocated to channels and time locks. Compare this to using your current wallet.
Recently, LN became even more complicated and convoluted. It needs a 3rd layer as well:
Scaling Bitcoin Might Require A Whole 'Nother Layer
How many additional steps does a user need to learn?
ALL COINS PLANNING OFF-CHAIN SCALING ARE AT RISK
Bitcoin Segwit, Litecoin, Vertcoin and possibly others (including Bitcoin Cash) are planning to implement LN or layer 2 scaling. Ethereum is planning to use Raiden Network, which is very similar to LN. If the above is true about LN, then the scaling roadmap for these coins is questionable at best, nullified at worst.
BLOCKSTREAM'S GAME PLAN IS ON TRACK
Blockstream employs several of the lead Bitcoin Core developers. Blockstream has said repeatedly that they want high fees. Quotes and source links can be found here.
Why is Blockstream so adamant on small blocks, high fees and off-chain scaling?
Small blocks, high fees and slow confirmations create demand for off-chain solutions, such as Liquid. Blockstream sells Liquid to exchanges to move Bitcoin quickly on a side-chain. LN will create liquidity hubs, such as exchanges, which will generate traffic and fees for exchanges. With this, exchanges will have a higher need for Liquid. This will be the main way that Blockstream will generate revenue for its investors, who invested $76 million. Otherwise, they can go bankrupt and die.
One of Blockstream’s investors/owners is AXA. AXA’s CEO and Chairman until 2016 was also the Chairman of Bilderberg Group. The Bilderberg Group is run by bankers and politicians (former prime ministers and nation leaders). According to GlobalResearch, Bilderberg Group wants “a One World Government (World Company) with a single, global marketplace…and financially regulated by one ‘World (Central) Bank’ using one global currency.” LN helps Bilderberg Group get one step closer to its goal.
Luke-Jr is one of the lead BTC developers in Core/Blockstream. Regulation of BTC is in-line with his beliefs. He is a big believer in the government, as he believes that the government should tax you and the “State has authority from God”. In fact, he has other radical beliefs as well:
So, having only large, regulated LN hubs is not a failure for Blockstream/Bilderberg. It’s a success. The title of this article should be changed to: "Lightning Will Fail Or Succeed, Depending On Whether You Are Satoshi Or Blockstream/Bilderberg".
SIGNIFICANT ADVANCEMENTS WITH ON-CHAIN SCALING
Meanwhile, some coins such as Ethereum and Bitcoin Cash are pushing ahead with on-chain scaling. Both are looking at Sharding.
Visa handles 2,000 transactions per second on average. Blockstream said that on-chain scaling will not work. The development teams for Bitcoin Cash have shown significant on-chain scaling:
1 GB block running on testnet demonstrates over 10,000 transactions per second:
"we are not going from 1MB to 1GB tomorrow — The purpose of going so high is to prove that it can be done — no second layer is necessary”
"Preliminary Findings Demonstrate Over 10,000 Transactions Per Second"
"Gigablock testnet initiative will likely be implemented first on Bitcoin Cash”
Peter Rizun, Andrew Stone -- 1 GB Block Tests -- Scaling Bitcoin Stanford At 13:55 in this video, Rizun said that he thinks that Visa level can be achieved with a 4-core/16GB machine with better implementations (modifying the code to take advantage of parallelization.)
Bitcoin Cash plans to fix malleability and enable layer 2 solutions:
The Future of “Bitcoin Cash:” An Interview with Bitcoin ABC lead developer Amaury Séchet:
"fixing malleability and enabling Layer 2 solutions will happen”
However, it is questionable if layer 2 will work or is needed.
GOING FORWARD
The four year scaling debate and in-fighting is what caused small blockers (Blockstream) to fork Bitcoin by adding Segwit and big blockers to fork Bitcoin into Bitcoin Cash. Read:
Bitcoin Divorce - Bitcoin [Legacy] vs Bitcoin Cash Explained
It will be interesting to see how they scale going forward.
Scaling will be instrumental in getting network effect and to be widely adopted as a currency. Whichever Coin Has The Most Network Effect Will Take All (Or Most) (BTC has little network effect, and it's shrinking.)
The ability to scale will be key to the long term success of any coin.

30k Worth of DEBT Behind My Back 😱

I’ve been married for about 3 years now. Don’t let anyone tell you it’s easy. It is hands down the MOST difficult thing to work out. But anyways... we have had our ups and down like any normal couple but I had recently found out my husband had accrued 30k worth of debt behind my back and had been lying for about a YEAR.
The back story to the debt accrual is we had moved from CO to where we are now (I had purchased a home before we met). He brought his car which sat in the garage not driven (it was leaking oil? whatever) So my husband was basically paying insurance and car payments on it while it just sat there until I FINALLY convinced him to sell it. Since there was a lien on it he decided to pull a loan and pay the vehicle off, as well as some high credit cards and a toolbox of his. (15k loan with a semi high interest rate) He was approved, paid the lien holder and finally got the title to sell the vehicle. He sold it for about 8-9k in which we had agreed he was going to put it all back into the loan and pay off the rest in a few months. I let it go because I’m not his mom. I just thought he’d be financially responsible. I WAS WRONG. He didn’t put the money back into the loan. He the proceeded to sell his toolbox and KEPT ALL THE CASH. Just off the top of my head he must’ve had about 10-12k in CASH. He blew it all. And not a single dollar went back into the loan and he is now 30k in debt. All the while I think we are doing great and we even discussed buying a new home and going on a lavish vacation. He knew DAMN well he couldn’t qualify for a home with that much debt under his belt. But kept lying to my face and giving me false hope. He additionally has 60k worth of school loans. Like WTF how could you possibly think you would be able to afford a home? I asked what he spent the money on... partially on gambling, he made a Bitcoin miner, and the rest he “doesn’t remember”.
So fast forward to me finding out about it this year. And I kicked him out of the house for about 2 weeks. My dumbass was suckered back in when he told me he had a plan and was working it all out. He didn’t expect me to pay anything towards his debt. I agreed and took him back. Of course we still argued and bickered here and there, but everything was seemingly normal and falling back into place. I even agreed to pull a home equity line of credit from MY HOUSE to pay the 30k in debt so that he could make payments without so much interest tacked on. So last night I get home and I’m in a bad mood from hearing terrible news from the lender. The line of credit I had applied for was denied due to my debt to income ratio. And since he’s not on the title he couldn’t co-sign. So I broke news to him when I got home. Later that night we are in bed and he knows I’m upset about something. He says “talk to me, what’s on your mind?” I immediately break down. I’m just bawling my eyes out telling him I felt defeated and I felt like we are going to be stuck forever. We never went on a honeymoon etc when we got married. He sat there in silence while I cried for 10 mins straight and then says “idk what to say to you and to all of that... I’m tired, I have to be up at 4am, can we talk about this tomorrow?” I’m floored guys. FLOORED. I just say “are you kidding right now?” And he snaps and says “what do you want from me?” I reply with “I don’t want anything from you at this point”. Any who, it escalated from there. We both are heated and he says to me “you treat my like shit and you never reassure me...” I lost it and became the psychopath buried deep down and yelled “I’m trying to get you out of debt by pulling equity out of MY house that I purchased before we got married so we can move forward and I am the one that treats you like shit?”
What else do you need? My liver? Kidneys?
He packs a bag and goes to his mom telling me he’s done and over all of this and how he does everything for me. While he’s packing he calls his mother to tell her I’m being a bitch and throwing his stuff out and that I’m mad for no reason. (He’s always the victim) I haven’t spoken to him since last night. And I doubt he will be coming home. A part of me STILL wants to take him back but I feel like it’s just me holding onto false hope since he is my first husband. I didn’t get married to plan on divorcing 3 years later. What the hell is wrong with me? A big part of me (85/15) is done with the entire situation. I’m traumatized.

We need to talk. The Bitcoin that Satoshi envisioned is dying as people just walk away.

We need to have a talk.
I've been a part of the bitcoin community since 2011 and right now I genuinely think Satoshi's vision for bitcoin is on the very edge of disappearing forever. Long-time community members are simply throwing their hands up and walking away. I know I have come pretty close to doing that myself.
If we don't do something before too many users leave we will have no hope in changing Bitcoin's course back to what everyone originally envisioned. In all honestly we may already be too late. If you look at the charts for this sub you will see the use of it has been steadily declining over the past few months. I'm noticing less and less participation is happening in each post with only 2 or three post on the front page getting much conversation going and they are usually over some controversy.
There are a number of reasons why this is happening. Firstly, one of the major reasons is Gregory Maxwell and his foot soldiers. He is outsmarting everyone here because the reality is, he is smarter than most people here. Here is what some of their main tactics are though. If you know them and take my advice it may help the situation;
Greg and his supporters accuse his opponents of all the things that he and his side do. This is highly effective, as to a casual observer it makes it very difficult to differentiate who is the one that is actually causing the problem. Most observers will simply think both groups are as bad as each other. It is not unlike the situation in sci-fi movies where there is an alien (or something similar) that transforms into a replica of someone and both are standing side-by-side calling the other the "phony" and only upon close inspection you are able to see which is the actual "phony". This is very difficult to defend against.
A second tactic they commonly use is to make some kind of prophecy based on little to no evidence, then they will work towards making that prophecy come true by any means necessary.

Some examples; btc has been under social attack from day one. It is a similar social attack that has been going on (and has succeeded) on bitcoin. There is a slightly different tactic being used on btc though.
On bitcoin they had the explicit support of theymos which meant that when the social attack started last year, anyone who went against it (i.e. pretty much everyone in the sub) theymos would simply ban them until the voice of the attackers outweighed or balanced the voice of the supporters. bitcoin being the main sub for bitcoin communication meant it is usually the first place new users become part of the bitcoin community. What they then get is a completely alternative view of bitcoin than the one most of us got any time before summer 2015. This was then taken to be the status quo by the new users and therefore was the view that they held. This meant that the sub started to fill with these new users who support the arguments given by the attackers. It worked, and if you go read the comments in bitcoin now you can see that it is a completely different community than at any time before summer 2015.
A trip down memory lane
The social attack on btc is different than the one on bitcoin in that they don't have the explicit support of the top mod here (memorydealers). This makes their task more difficult as they can't simply have the view they want to be removed eradicated by banning anyone who states those views. It is worth noting that originally they did try to make this tactic possible by getting btcdrak on the list of mods. He did this by socially engineering memorydealers through social media. It was effective until the community here made enough of a fuss to have him removed. Instead their backup plan is now to make this place the "cesspool" they are proclaiming it to be (remember I said one of their tactics is to make prophecies come true). They do this by having a team of people posting in here day in day out stirring the pot and causing messy arguments. Over the last month or so they have been upping the ante and Greg himself has been coming here to create as much controversy as possible. Specifically he is trying to draw the devs of Bitcoin Classic and Bitcoin Unlimited out by attacking them both personally and professionally. He and his foot soldiers are purposely trying to turn btc into a shithole to push people away from the sub, and it's working. You can see posts here all the time from valuable members of the community saying they no longer want to be a part of the community any more. The stats back it up as well. Large numbers of the community are moving into other cryptocurrencies or simply giving up on cryptocurrency all together.
They are winning.

There only three ways to defend against this kind of attack.
  1. Do not engage with these people. Their effectiveness comes from how big their platform is. The more you engage with them the bigger their voice is. I understand the argument that bad/false arguments should be corrected, but this is not effective. It takes 1000 times more effort to counter bullshit than it does to counter the truth. You will never win this way (unfortunately). If you feel what they are saying does not have value or has negative value simply downvote and discuss with other people in the thread. That is not to say that people should not debate with genuine people, but there are specific users who ARE NOT GENUINE. They are not here for genuine debate.
  2. memorydealers you need to remove the trolls . There are some here that would call it censorship but you are not banning an idea. You are banning the shit stirring that goes on here on a daily basis. What these attackers want most is a platform. It's the reason why they spend so much time complaining about the censorship here but spend zero time complaining about the censorship in bitcoin. They don't actually care about about censorship. They care about socially attacking the community and to be able to do that their accounts need to be able to post here. I am sure there will be some amount of community backlash but at this point what do you have to lose? The community here is dying anyway.
  3. We need to fork bitcoin and stop debating whether a block size increase should happen or not. The debate has happened. No compromise was made by Core and they have decided they are going to do what they want to do and nothing anyone else is going to say is going to stop them. Miners have shown almost 100% support in bitcoin core and there is absolutely zero indication that this will change. If anything, their support seems to be growing. We need a divorce and one that happens as cleanly as possible. A clean divorce is far better for everyone than an unhappy marriage. That means we have to simply stop engaging with core and hoping that things will change. Support for a fork needs to increase and all effort needs to go into making it successful. This is the ONLY way users are going to be given a voice. We need support from the teams of Bitcoin Classic and Bitcoin Unlimited. All of these teams (including the one that is gathering around the btcforks project) supports a multi-client and free-choice development environment and all support on-chain scaling. If we work together we will have a much much higher likelihood of success.
These are the users that I believe to be attacking both btc and bitcoin (and I am certain there more):

No one has to take my advice and you are welcome to call this all bullshit but I decided to put in all the effort I can over the next months in a last ditch effort to try and save bitcoin, and that includes trying to save the community here. I'd like to end this with a quote from the movie Interstellar;

"We used to look up at the sky and wonder at our place in the stars, now we just look down and worry about our place in the dirt."

EDIT: There is a perfect example HERE in this thread of what I am talking about.
Lejitz stirs shit up. Then mufftrader response which encourages Lejitz to fling twice as much shit.
EDIT: It seems to be working. The trolls are now resorting to simply talking to themselves in this thread.

EDIT: I should add that if you want to take part in the btcforks project you can join our sub at btcfork or you can join our slack at btcforks.signup.team.

New Data Gives Unprecedented Insight Into How Iranians Use Bitcoin

New Data Gives Unprecedented Insight Into How Iranians Use Bitcoin

News by Coindesk: Leigh Cuen
Out of 1,650 Iranian bitcoiners surveyed in Persian Telegram groups, 25 percent earned $500 to $3,000 a month from working with cryptocurrency, according to a survey conducted by the analytics firm Gate Trade.
This data offers an exclusive peek inside the evolution of the Iranian bitcoin community, and so far it looks like the classic “store of value” investment thesis can hold water.
More than a third of respondents, 35 percent, earned that income by mining, while 58 percent earned income through trading, both via exchange platforms and grassroots networks of local money changers providing liquidity with Iranian rials.
The survey indicated strong growth in the domestic mining industry, with 70 percent of respondents expressing interest in learning more about local mining businesses.
The Iranian crypto market is shifting its dominant focus from global exchange platforms to local exchanges and miners, because most centralized exchanges with know-your-customer (KYC) compliance exclude Iranians. Roughly 83 percent of survey respondents said the community needed more robust access to exchanges in order to grow.
In the meantime, a Gate Trade spokesperson told CoinDesk that many Iranians are using VPNs and purchasing foreign ID cards on the black market to circumnavigate discrimination.
Bitcoin developer and educator Jimmy Song told CoinDesk he has seen similar developments in other regions. The conduits may differ, yet they follow familiar patterns.
“In China, there are WeChat groups [for traders] because they don’t have as much direct access to exchanges,” he said, adding:
“I’m also hearing about a price premium in Argentina, for example, because the economy is facing some issues. … What we want, for all of these places, whether distressed or not, is for people to have the ability to accumulate capital and earn more money, to build things.”
The climate of censorship faced by Iranians has helped divorce local demand from global factors such as dollar prices, the gold market or even local stock markets. Up to 60 percent of respondents said such external conditions had little or no impact on their bitcoin investments. Most respondents were long-term holders, investing in bitcoin with the intention to hold it for more than a year.
Such is the case with Tehran-based blockchain developer Mahmoud Eskandari. He holds bitcoin, liquidates various cryptos as a side job and sends bitcoin to Iranian students abroad to help pay their expenses, including his relatives.
“Today it is clear to me that more and more people are using bitcoin,” Eskandari told CoinDesk. “Bitcoin has not had a profound impact on the lives of the Iranian people, but its use is growing among the people and I can see that.”
Roughly 29 percent of Iranian respondents hold more than $5,000 worth of crypto, mostly bitcoin. Compared to statistics from the CoinDesk 2018 reader survey, which reached predominantly American and European bitcoin users, Iranians are storing significantly more wealth in bitcoin.
Although 63 percent of CoinDesk respondents held more than $5,000 in crypto, Iranians are storing a higher concentration of their wealth. For context, only 14 percent of Iranian respondents earned more than $10,000 a year. Yet nearly a third of CoinDesk survey respondents were accredited investors and 13 percent described themselves as “crypto millionaires.”
“[Demand for bitcoin] is going to be felt in distressed economies much more than first-world economies,” Song said. “That’s to be expected because they feel the impact of inflation much more.”

Why don't we let Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash co-exists peacefully as digital gold and peer-to-peer cash?

If Bitcoin Cash keeps growing, I don't see why we can't accept the divorce and peacefully co-exist. Let Bitcoin Core be digital gold with high fees and high security, and Bitcoin Cash the peer-to-peer cash with low fees and less security (at least, for now). Both can run it's course, and we'll see what the future brings.
Perhaps the 2nd layer will materialise as Core envisions it, and render Bitcoin Cash irrelevant. Or Bitcoin Cash attracts plenty of hashing power, diverse miners, and many who run nodes, rendering Bitcoin Core irrelevant.
Either way, Segwit2x would be reduced to the uninspiring compromise that it actually is.
submitted by AndreKoster to btc [link] [comments]

Why I think the NYA (Segwit2x) should be abandoned. (From a Bitcoin Cash Supporter)

  1. Sewit2x was intended as a compromise to keep the Bitcoin Chain from Splitting. However, the chain has already split, those who support Bitcoin Cash are happy with the Bitcoin Cash chain. It is operating well and has demonstrated high throughput capacity and low fees. Those on the Segwit side now have Segwit locked in and no hard fork - which is what they want.
  2. Pursuing Segwit2x is likely to cause a chain split again into pure segwit and segwit2x. If all chains survive then there will be three chains all trying to be bitcoin. This is adding to confusion. Replay issues may not be resolved. Money could be lost, reputational damage will occur to the bitcoin brand and investors wont have any understanding or certainty.
  3. People who held bitcoin before the split had equal amounts of bitcoin and bitcoin cash after the split (if they got them into a safe space). As long as they keep both they wont lose if one chain goes up and one goes down in value. However, all those who are buying either one coin or the other without understanding the risks could find that they lose substantially. As an example, a lot of novices may decide to by bitcoin, but should bitcoin cash overtake it they will lose. SO, it would be far better to announce that all splits have been done and that there are two coins and publicize that people must be aware of the nature of each coin before making their investment decisions. It is only fair. And better than waiting 3 months for the chains to diverge even further.
  4. Mining hash power can flow to support which ever chain - unencumbered by "agreements". Bitcoin is not meant to operate via agreements it is meant to operate from profit incentives from miners. Miners have only to decide how they balance their hash across the two chains. Those that believe in providing a good service to customers in the short term in order to grow bitcoin's user base may well decide to mine bitcoin cash. Others who think that segwit provides the way forward can go in that direction.
  5. The ecosystem can fracture organically along a philosophical line and each supporter group can enjoy their own ecosystem - and the proof of who is right will be up to market forces and the evolution of the two chains. If segwit2x gets up, the ecosystem will still argue along philosophical lines with each side claiming they are responsible for any successes and blaming the other for any shortcomings. It is better to divorce early than to stay in an abusive relationship only to end up separating anyway at a later date. We are all tired of years of fighting.
  6. Time for people to put their money where their mouth is. A lot of people claim that segwit is the way forward - a lot of people claim big blocks are the natural progression as technology advances (without ruling out other scaling ideas). A lot of "experts" have stated their opinions and claimed ecosystem support. We will find out who the real support lies with and who is right and who is wrong if we split along these natural lines. I can think of many people who have been very dismissive of bigger blocks and claim superior technical knowledge backs them up. They should stand by their opinions, side with the coin that they think best. Sell out of the one they dislike. And let history judge them.
  7. Greater clarity for ecosystem support services such as exchanges and wallet providers etc. Already, many are moving to support bitcoin cash. So, with just the two chains operating all the work is well advanced and in some cases completed. No further hardforks by bitcoin mean no more development effort.
  8. The three months of propaganda and uncertainty and attacks that are clearly going to occur in the lead up to a November hardfork will not occur. Effort can be redirected toward positive development.
  9. There is a chance that a pure segwit chain that forks away from segwit2x may die off or be irrelevant, taking all the hard core blockstream and core supporters with it. This is a disadvantage to those people (although they would argue that they will win) ,and a possible advantage to others who fondly wish for such an occurrence. So avoiding this possibility is a plus for some and a negative for others.
  10. We have certainty of the here and now - with no more actions contingent on things going to plan over the next three months and no more uncertainty about the actual hardfork itself. With Bitcoin Cash there is no actual need for a chain with both segwit and 2mb blocks.
Having said all that - I doubt that anything will change. Miners are likely to honor the NYA. Blockstream will push for no hard fork. Attacks will continue. Tweets will continue to be trolled. I just feel sorry if people naively invest a lot in bitcoin only for it later to tank and they weren't even aware of other options might rise up to compete with it for dominance in the market place.

SUPER ZERO(SERO)

The global leading privacy protecting platform Making decentralized applications truly Secure, Private and Stable

The Internet has greatly enhanced the efficiency of information dissemination, which benefits Human society; on the other hand, lack of privacy becomes more of a serious problem. Blockchain is considered a great tool to protect privacy. However, since all the transactions are recorded on the public blockchain, once the identity of the wallet holder gets uncovered, this loss of privacy is irreversible. The scenario leads to a more serious problem than the privacy disclosure of the Internet. For this reason, cryptographers and top technical experts in the blockchain industry have made relentless efforts to resolve the issue. Several teams in the industry have developed special cryptocurrencies to protect privacy, which are called "anonymous currencies". Some of the best-known anonymous currencies are Zcash (ZEC), Monero (XMR), and Dash. These cryptocurrencies with a certain degree of privacy protection, have obtained high market values based on the vast demand and have been ranked among the world's top 20 cryptocurrencies for a long time; thus, indicating a strong demand for privacy protection in the blockchain industry.

Smart contract is a computer protocol designed to distribute, verify or execute contracts in an information-based way. Turing complete smart contract system on the blockchain allows developers to write any complicated contract that lives on the blockchain and can be executed on the blockchain. Developers can use smart contract development language to produce functions such as custom token, financial derivatives, identity system, and decentralized organization, therefore, greatly expanding the application scope of the blockchain system. Smart contract is one of the foundational bases of the Internet of Value. The current shortcoming is that none of the blockchain systems support encryption and privacy protection of smart contracts. The existing use scenarios of privacy protection mechanisms are greatly reduced due to the technical limitation. Blockchain 1.0 technology originated from Bitcoin invented by Satoshi Nakamoto, has created a new paradigm. With the advent of Ethereum – blockchain 2.0, the invention of smart contracts makes the blockchain technology accessible, and the Distributed Applications (DAPPs) based on the blockchain technology more feasible, allowing blockchain technology to be applicable to more industries. Zcash and Monero which do not support smart contracts are privacy protection scheme 1.0; privacy protection scheme 2.0 that supports smart contracts is expected to be implemented in more industries and application scenarios.

There is no doubt about the high technical threshold required for developing anonymous cryptocurrencies that support smart contracts, and there are only few teams in the world who are tackling this problem. The official release of Super Zero (SERO) to the world presents the first anonymous cryptocurrency that supports smart contracts. The SERO's R&D team (SERO Team) is the only team in the world that presents a complete solution to solve the Privacy problem and has completed major R&D work. SERO team not only considers the privacy of DAPP Users' accounts and transactions but also fully considers privacy protection of DAPPs’ developers, making privacy protection of the DAPP Ecosystem truly secure and stable.

SERO team has assembled a 3 in 1 suite that can provide a complete privacy protection solution for DAPPs; including advanced innovative technology components SERO (privacy cryptocurrencies platform supporting smart contracts), ALIEN protocol (a protocol that can solve security problems within the transmission of information in decentralized networks) and CASTROL protocol (a protocol that protects decentralized networks and provides privacy protection for every node in the Internet). The white paper describes SERO's work and includes core information about the project as well as the disclosure of subsequent project plans.

At present, users have an increasing concern and demand for privacy protection; many wellknown companies have leaked a large number of user privacy data, including Yahoo, Uber, PayPal, InterContinental Hotels Group, US credit agency Equifax, UK National Health Service System(NHS) etc., compromising tens of millions to hundreds of millions of user data. Facebook lost tens of billions of dollars in market value in two days due to one of the largest privacy leaks in March 2018. The issue of privacy has also attracted the attention of many governments; the European Union took the lead in promulgating the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) to urge companies to effectively protect users' privacy

Majority of the privacy leaks in the Internet application scenarios are caused by the lack of adequate data security protection mechanisms in a centralized platform. Blockchain technology is thought to be able to prevent such incidents. The design of blockchain networks such as Bitcoin and Ethereum didn’t take into account the possibility of the link established between the wallet and physical identity. The extremely sensitive information such as digital assets and their transaction records in the blockchain is transparent to public and cannot be tampered with. If blockchain is used in a larger number of real scenarios, the transparency is undoubtedly unacceptable for most users.

The range of legal use cases of financial privacy is very wide. Financial privacy protection is needed for most transactions in the world. It is unreasonable to expose cryptocurrencies' assets and transactions data stored on the blockchain to the public. Examples of real-world scenarios:
* A company wants to protect supply chain information without revealing it to the competitors.
* An individual does not want the public knowledge of paying for consultation with a bankruptcy lawyer or divorce lawyer.
*A family, fearing discrimination, wants to withhold children’s medical history from employers and colleagues.
*A wealthy individual preventing potential criminals from gaining access to his whereabouts to prevent extortion.
* Commodity buyers and sellers want to avoid the transaction being cut off by any middlemen.
* Investment banks, hedge funds and other types of entities dealing with trading financial instruments (securities, bonds, derivatives); protecting their positions or trading intentions.

In smart contracts, the entire sequence of actions is distributed through the network and recorded on the blockchain and is publicly visible. Individuals and organizations believe financial transactions (such as insurance contracts or stock transactions) are highly confidential; however, this need for the information privacy protection is not currently supported. The lack of privacy becomes the main obstacle to the widespread adoption of decentralized smart contracts. The lack of privacy protection technology is a serious bottleneck for the popularization of DAPPs. The technological development progress in related fields has attracted public attention.

Bitcoin network is a typical blockchain technology representative. Mainstream cryptocurrencies in the market are mostly based on the same technical features. The following uses Bitcoin network as an example to analyze the risk of privacy leakage.

The left side of equation (1) is the message sent by the sender to the intermediary, and the right side is the message sent to the receiver after the information is processed by the intermediary. The sender wants to send the messages Z0 and m to the address A of the receiver. First, the message encrypts with the key CA of the receiver to obtain CA(Z0, m), then packages the authentication message Z1 of the intermediary. The encrypted message CA(Z0, m) and the address A of the receiver, then encrypts with the public key CM of the intermediary to prevent the information from being intercepted or tampered with by attackers during the sending process. After receiving the information, the intermediary decrypts it with his private key to get Z1, CA(Z0, m), A, but is unable to decrypt the content of CA(Z0, m). The intermediary sends CA(Z0, m) to address A after verifying Z1 is correct. The receiver then decrypts the message using its own private key to complete the communication.

CM(Z1,CA(Z0,m),A)→CA(Z0,m),A(1)

Messages are not directly transmitted between the sender and the receiver, instead, the messages are transmitted indirectly through an intermediary, making it impossible for attackers to observe the communication behavior between the sender and receiver, thus, improving the anonymity of the communication. If the message is passed through multiple intermediaries, for the difficulty for attackers to discover the communication relationship between the sender and receiver increases.

The mixed currency mechanism in cryptocurrencies draws from the above methods ( Dash and Monero ) and removes the traceable relationship between the actual sender and receiver in the transaction through an intermediate hierarchy. The implementation of the currency mixing process can be implemented by a trusted third-party or other protocol. A third-party node is involved in the currency mixing process, the existing currency mixing mechanisms can be divided into two categories: the central node and the decentralized node. The two mechanisms have their own advantages and disadvantages in terms of currency mixing reliability, efficiency and cost.

The privacy protection technologies of decentralized network in the existing market do not combine with decentralized applications; particularly, the implementation of smart contracts is not protected. The sequence of actions performed in the smart contract is publicly visible throughout the network and / or recorded on the blockchain platform. In Turing complete blockchain network, SERO’s design must meet several basic principles as well as meet the system's capacity requirements:

Un-traceable - every transaction in the blockchain network has an input and an output; constructing an acyclic graph of transactions, on which all of the transaction flows can be tracked, all of the transaction sequences can be concatenated and traced. SERO is designed to break the link between the two transactions, making the attack impossible

Un-associable - each user in the blockchain network has their own collection address. Once the address is associated with the real user identity, all the transactions occurring at the address in the network can be associated with the corresponding user identity, resulting in the exposure of the associated behaviors to the address. All the transactions and balances are still publicly visible when a user creates a new pseudonym public key for anonymity. SERO uses encryption technology to make the payment address unrelated.

Anti-statistical analysis - actual user behavior has statistical characteristics. If the transaction data in the blockchain network has a correlation that reflect such statistical characteristics, it is possible to deduce the addresses belongs to a specific user through statistical analysis of the blockchain data. When ring signatures are used, the ability to resist statistical analysis will decrease if ring members or nodes are malicious. SERO must be able to completely hide the address and the relationship between addresses by technological means.

Practicality principles - SERO, while hiding the transaction data, will not take all the information into its scope, which can be uneconomical and inefficient. SERO will consider the user's existing usage habits and concerns to carry out research and development periodically.

Optional auditing solution - for the alternative audit scheme and certain complex business applications, the user may choose a trusted third-party to conduct financial audit of transactions. The user should have the ability to give the third-party to track the specific information from the transactions.

IMPLEMENTATION PLAN

In the first phase, SERO will completely protect the inputs and outputs of the trading system and the trading details through non-interactive zero-knowledge proof (NIZK). The transaction details are invisible to everyone except the two parties involved. SERO will maintain the smart contracts running on the chain and integrate the assets generated by the smart contracts with SERO's own trading system, considering that the online running smart contracts and the total number of open contracts issued assets have universal applicability. This will enable the privacy of the assets generated by the smart contract.

In the second phase, within the smart contracts running online, SERO will provide a latent structure called Hidden Data Structure(HDS) to satisfy the requirement for the total number of issued assets with protected contracts. The calculations for the HDS complete off the chain. The function will protect the total number of contractually issued assets.

In the third phase, SERO will adopt a more advanced consensus mechanism to improve the throughput of SERO networks. At the same time, SERO will decompose the operation of the contract into two steps: offline calculation and online verification. The offline calculation will fully understand the calculation rules and data, and will return the encrypted result. When the result is submitted online, the online node will only validate the result and determine whether the data conforms to the calculation rules; the node will not know the details of the data and calculation rules.

SERO PROTOCOL

Accounts are divided into two categories: user account and contract account. The user account is a 32-byte selected by the user, the contract account generates a 64-byte corresponding to the smart contract environment the user installed; both categories are unique and non-repeatable.

The user account can generate a 64-byte private key and a 64-byte public key , as the user's payment address. When installing or invoking the smart contract, the wallet will generate a temporary address according to the current condition. The temporary address cannot be associated with the user's private key and public key and will only be used once.

When the smart contract is installed, the wallet will change the temporary address to a 64 byte smart contract address ( ) in accordance with the current condition. As the node receives the address, it needs to ensure that the contract address has not appeared before.

In SERO’s Alpha and Beta networks, in order to ensure the healthy development of the network at the initial stage, to ensure the robustness of the consensus and the timeliness of system updates, it is necessary for SERO project team to coordinate the miners. Therefore, testers with mining needs need to apply for mining licenses from the SERO R&D team. In addition to mining, testing of other functions does not require a license. On the premise of not disclosing the identity of miners as much as possible, the block will expose some of the attributes in the license, which can be monitored by the SERO community. In the early stage of the Beta network, when the network is attacked and a major crisis occurred, the SERO team will use unconventional means to resist attacks and protect the property safety of community members through community voting under the premise of community permission and supervision. The license feature will be removed after BetaNet has been online for half a year.
