Bitcoin mining software comparison: BFGminer vs GUIminer vs Bitminter vs CGminer.

Please feel free to speak your mind, and give a educated opinion and criticize each software. I want this to be a thread to show beginning miners which software could be the best for them.

How long does it take to get bitcoins from solo mining using guiminer

New to Bitcoin mining, seems like GUIminer accepts any user/pass combo ?!

So I just literally started the mining process a few minutes ago on my poverty macbook air (I just want to test the waters).
In, guiminer, it seems like the app accepts any usepass combination and starts displaying hash/s speeds. How do I know if my mining account is actually working when I input the correct usepass combo ?.
Server is "slush's pool", Device is "[0-1] HD graphics 4000"

Fired up my computer to mine bitcoin to help out.

I am set to lose some dollars this month in power because I'm using my gtx1070 instead of an ASIC. I don't care. I just want to help and do what I can. No stale shares on the network so far.

asking for help with old account -, slushpool, around 2013-ish

Hoping to ask the experts. i had a passing interest in bitcoin a few moons ago. I recall hearing about this mining thing and then name slushy's or slush pool seems vaguely familiar. Anywho with all the recent BTC news I was curious if there is anyway to recall this wallet/balance/fractions of bitcoins. I'm not expecting lambo money, but perhaps a hotwheel's could be in my future. In my 2013 notepad file, which i dutifully named bitcoin password and wallet recovery.txt I have a string of 17 words and a alphanumeric number with dashes and reference to which seems to have changed ownership since I last visited it in 2013. Any ideas what to do with this information? Thank you!

I was down sized yesterday from a big electronics store (x post from r/self)

Today I went back to collect my last check and clean out my locker. While employed with said large box electronic store I was head of their computer and laptop section. My duties were to set up new displays and ensure they run continually among other things. I installed guiminer on every single computer that could run it and now am making a bitcoin a day. I feel like it is severance pay. I wonder if I will ever get a phone call about the hidden admins accounts...

Mining Setup Conversion/Power Consumption

I am currently trying to figure out the answer to the following question: I am currently mining BTC at 300 KH/s, earning about 8632 Satoshis a day. If I was to instead mine using a TH/s Machine, how would I calculate my supposed earnings based off the current setup?
Second Question is, how in the world do I figure out the power consumption, so I can plan accordingly, of my laptop?

How do I get started with namecoin?

I'd like to get started with namecoin how can I set this up on my windows PC?
Edit: Morning update, Thanks for everyone's help on this biosupdate's post is extremely helpful.
In some ways I think this could be slightly better than bitcoin, since it actually has a use behind the coins rather than just a medium of exchange, but we'll see.

Some of my alternative results

I’ll go where the better returns are. I’ve mined big pools, small pools, Vertcoin one click, WinMiner, Cuba, ccminer, cpuminer, guiminer, ethminer and most of them suck. Either the set up is trash and there’s no info on what is needed for it to run, or the UI is atrocious.
NiceHash was simple- point and shoot. On top of that, it yielded good returns. WinMiner so far is the closest thing. CPU pointed at SUMO and GPUs pointed at VTC, it’s pulling roughly $5 a day. I also like that I can cash out in BTC, PayPal, or Vertcoin.
Slush pool yielded like, 0.01 after 24 hours Noobpool yielded 0.00 Give-me-coins VTC yielded 0.02 after like, 30 hours. Vertcoin one click might be okay if your pool doesn’t suck, but almost all the pools I found, did in fact suck.
Oh, I also briefly mined LBRY and got some very high hash rates and the currency started stacking up, but the currency is very very cheap, so the number of coins you get skyrockets, but it still equates to < $1
So, as of now, WinMiner is the only option that doesn’t suck.
GPU: GeForce 1070 ti CPU: I7 8700K 3.70ghz
Update: I gave AwesomeMiner a shot. I created the miner so it was automated and all I had to provide was my bitcoin address - then run it. It’s currently mining Nist5 from zpool and estimating $8/day
Some issues I’m currently working on with AwesomeMiner: It’s running my GPU fine, but configuring the CPU takes a little more time. I also have a MSI GT70 laptop with a Nvidia 870m that isn’t able to run the ccminer2.2.2 because it uses Cuda9, so trying to find a work around for that.

My first 0.1 BTC

Today I received my first 0.1 BTC from pool mining! I'm not planing to sell them I'm planing to buy beer with them, I just have to find someone who will sell beer for Bitcoins near me, which is harder than mining.
P.S. I pushed the built in Mining button once, 2010 in Satoshi client, but that wallet are gone since years so don't know if I earned anything.
Edit: Some typo, read comments :P

I have 3 cards that were mining fine yesterday, and this morning. This afternoon and now two are at 2Mhash/s and one is at 460 khash/s. They were before at around 120 and 200 Mhash/s

Can anyone help me with what may have caused this? I'm using deeptbit. I switched to triplemining, it mines fine for about 10 minutes, and then goes back down. two are nvidia, 1 is ati.

How hard is it to mint coins? I want some Fine Silver coins with custom stuff

Ok, so I deal with litecoins on the side as an interesting hobby. Ive sunk a small amount of money into it (less than 500 USD), I also casually mine daily usually when Im sleeping.
I want to see a silver coin with this symbol Ł picture here
So that picture admittedly looks like total shit, and I hate how its the current litecoin logo, however, I think it would look nice in fine silver polished up.
How does one go about obtaining custom silver coinage?

New to Ðogecoin?

Ðogecoin is a community friendly crypto-currency. Very similar to Bitcoin, but with a more noob-friendly and welcoming community. Be sure to check the sidebar - Being a new shibe though, you may be better served with a reddit-style self-post.
To do the special Ð character, hold alt and type 0208.
To do the special Ð character on Ubuntu 12.04: Ctrl + Shift + U; then type 00D0; finally press enter for Ð (Starkythefox)
To do the special Ð via HTML: & ETH; (no space) (cdeverett)
Do not expect to make a fortune in Ðogecoin. A Ðoge is worth about 0.00052 cents USD. The fact it has gotten so popular shocked even the creators, so consider Dogecoin your 'fuck around' cryptocurrency: You can afford to make mistakes while you learn.
What is a shibe? - A useholder of Dogecoin
What is this about the moon? - A lot of other cryptocurrencies including bitcoin expect the price of their coins to appreciate to the point they can buy huge mansions in which to store all their smaller mansions and little gold statues of other mansions. Shibes know the price of Ðogecoin will go to the moon. (Warning: Moon is not a tangible number. Heating in your house may be turned off if you attempt to pay in dogecoin)
Don't use an online wallet - Download the wallet program directly to your computer. You'll have full control and prevent leaving your Ðoge in the hands of strangers.
Sign up with a pool and try to mine some coin for yourself. Even if your computer sucks! It feels great when you see some mined coin pop up in your wallet.
Seriously. Try mining! Mining can be a bit daunting to begin with, but its very rewarding and you'll have a much better grasp of the beginning to end of how cryptocurrency works. (Unless you are using GUIMiner, you'll have to create a .bat file with your settings. Search/ask this subreddit if you get stuck)
Earning Ðogecoin Outside of mining - It's easy to earn Ðogecoin in the /dogecoin subreddit(s). Post something helpful or create funny content, you'll get tipped. Want to offer a silly service? check out /shibemarket/ (I bought reasons Mario Kart can suck my dick for 227 doges a pop a while back.) Hell, you can even beg or buy some.
Tipping: - Send a message to both tip bots to register so you can give and receive tips. The bots are so_doge_tip and dogetipbot. Send them each a message that says +register. It might take a while to get a response, but once you do you are ready to go.
Gambling: - What, is the emotional rollercoaster of a non-government backed, untested digital currency with all the worries of a pennystock and complications of FOREX not wild enough for you? I've seen a lot of people posting newly discovered gambling problems with this new found technology. You are best to avoid it. If you're looking to make money and are counting on Ðogecoin to make that happen - Just keep mining or buy in small, regular increments. The house always wins.
Faucets: (Thanks vidarino) Free dogecoin to get you started! You can get a very small bit of free Dogecoin in your wallet by inputting your receiving address into one of the faucets listed in the sidebar. Once you have some Ðoge of your very own, be sure to tip the faucets to help spread Ðoge to others! Don't be greedy and totally drain the faucets - they have very little and run on donations - No longer working - No longer working - No longer working
Where is your wallet.dat On win7 you can find that here: C:\Users\owner\AppData\Roaming\DogeCoin
Finally - /dogecoin is all about tipping, helping new shibes out, and posting memes and image macros.
Edit: Added note about gambling
Edit 2: Added note about faucets

Help setting bitcoin data directory?

I am new to bitcoin, and I have an SSD, with less than a couple gigabytes left, and a HDD with half a TB. When I go in GUIMiner, > Solo utilities and press set bitcoin data directory, I select that I want to store it in my Terabyte. But every time I hit okay, and confirm it does not go through. I cannot figure this out!

Got myself a wallet, now how do i get Bitcoin?

Hey Reddit,
I tried to get into Bitcoin a while ago but it was complicated and so i didn't follow it through. After reading the article on the front Page i decided to give it a go again and downloaded myself a wallet and already found out my address. It is currently Syncing with the network.
Now about the more troublesome part. Unfortunately there is no BitCoin Selling Machine next to me but i read on the FAQ that I can get Bitcoin by letting my computer solve some math equations, preferably on my graphics card. Now my Laptop has a NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics card. How many Bitcoins will it get me in a day of calculation? also how do I start the process? The Wallet doesn't seem to have a menu for mining and i don't understand how a different program that might do the calculations will put the Bitcoins into my wallet. Or does it tell the Bitcoin-Group that i solved a problem and they then ask me for my address?
Thank you for bearing me :)

Mining causes my display to turn off?

I decided to try mining with my modest desktop PC just out of curiosity, and to learn more about how bitcoin works. I recently upgraded my GPU to a GeForce GTX 550 Ti and I just tried using it to mine for the first time. Within one minute of turning on guiminer, my display shuts off (as if in sleep mode) but will not come back on unless I do a hard restart. I've tried the HDMI output to my 42" TV and the DVI output to my 19" monitor with similar results.
First thing I thought was my PSU isn't powerful enough but I just upgraded that as well, a Corsair CX-500M (500 watts) so it should be more than enough. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Small mining operation, question about mining programs

Hi all,
I read a post on this subreddit (from a while ago, I think) about how even though guiminer is simple and easy to use, it's not worth it, and that it's only really worth it to use either cgminer or bfgminer. Well, I had guiminer running on three computers today for like 3 hours and got 0 successful hashes (is that the correct way to say it?), but then I finally figured out how to set up bfgminer and after an hour I had over 100 successful hashes on one computer (~160 MH/s) and 5-10 on the other two (~20 MH/s), so I am led to believe that the post was correct and guiminer is really not worth it...
Could someone explain to me why bfgminer would be so much better than guiminer? Is this a phenomenon that could easily be purely machine-specific? I am too new to this to really know what's going on, but I think I have seen adequate reason to believe that bfgminer is much more suitable at least for my own setup.
